Tahiti

It’s that time of year when it’s pretty much cold everywhere & you just want to take a vacation to somewhere warm & tropical. It was around this time last year we went on the trip of a lifetime to somewhere just like that…somewhere magical…

When we were thinking about what to do for our 1 year anniversary, my husband threw out Bora Bora and I couldn’t get it out of my head. He probably regretted suggesting it as we started checking on pricing haha But once I get something in my head…I can’t let it go…typical woman 😉

We called our travel agent to help us to decide where to stay & she told us about all the options of where to stay in Tahiti. We were going back & forth trying to decide whether to go to Bora Bora or Moorea.

There is no question that anywhere in the French Polynesia is stunning, it just depends on what you’re looking for…but you really can’t go wrong. The way we saw it, Bora Bora was a big beautiful sand bar & we wanted the option of exploring the beautiful mountains & waterfalls Moorea had to offer. Don’t get me wrong …when we were choosing between The St. Regis in Bora Bora or The Sofitel in Moorea there were insane things about both…but we could take a whole other amazing vacation with the money we’d save if we chose Moorea. We were torn & finally my husband said “you choose…I’ll go wherever you want”. Damn him! How could he leave this kind of a decision to me! If I pick the pricier one I’m a greedy, ungrateful, gold digging tramp hehe and if I pick Moorea…how do we fly so far for this unforgettable trip of a lifetime and not go the extra mile to Bora Bora … where they filmed the “screensaver” movie “Couples Retreat” Back, forth, back, forth…

I finally called our travel agent & told her “We choose…….Moorea”

She said…”you won’t regret it”. She was right. We got the best of both worlds…the surf & the turf of Tahiti 😉

…and the turf

We arrived and it was overcast & rainy…needless to say my husband was a “Snatch-a-sourus Rex” as he likes to call me around my lady time 😉 He was all like “I can’t believe we spent our first kids college fund & left sunny & 72 California for this” haha Just Kidding! He was floored at God’s creation. We both were. We arrived at our hotel {Sofitel Moorea La Ora Beach Resort} checked in to our “take your breathe away” overwater bungalow…b&nt5the very last one at the end so it was super private & nothing was blocking our view of the most magical never ending ocean view…request that if you can! We were in complete awe. We could see the most colorful fish through the floor of our bungalow! It was beautiful! The sand was soft & white & the water was so crystal clear you could see straight to the floor of the ocean. The coral was stunning & mysterious. It was  like a dream. It was like a “screensaver“.

The concierge suggested we check out the Vaioro Falls {Afareaitu Waterfalls}. So we set out to hike up this enchanted rain forest & kept passing little falls. We weren’t sure if each one we passed was the one we were suppose to see but the concierge said “you’ll know when you see it” so we kept going & going… it was like “are we ever going to get…” & then boom! That scene in the Goonies when they finally find the gold. The treasures of Tahiti…mmmm it took our breath away. The waterfall was as tall as the highest mountain it felt like & it slid down into an enchanted lagoon just big enough to swim in. It was surrounded by huge rocks & a magical forest. It was stunning & private. “Well we went skinny dippin’ & did things that frightened the fish” ~ Steel Magnolias. A quote from one of my fav movies…but still…true 😉 It was a scene out a Nicolas Sparks movie haha.

Probably one of the most romantic things we’ve ever done.

We woke up on our anniversary, November 1st & dangled our feet off the deck & started one of our sweet traditions by reading each other personalized “re-newed” vows as we watched the sun rise out of the sea. It was beyond beautiful. Then we jumped right off our deck to play in the perfectly warm water…
